Star-BulletinSales of merchandise featuring the kapa-trimmed "H" designs have been brisk since the change was announced a week ago today.
Oliver Cajala, a sales associate, estimated sales at the Ward Centre RainBowTique outlet doubled the day after the announcement.
"On Thursday the sales were about $4,000," Cajala said.
Didot Hendrarto, the Ward Centre and Stan Sheriff Center RainBowTique manager, said change has been good for business.
"Customers are curious about the new logo and they want to see what it looks like," said Hendrarto, adding that many who came to look ended up purchasing items.
Joyce Torres of Kaneohe was among the buyers.
"I like it," she said. "The designs on the arms and the legs look nice."
Torres, shopping for her husband and son, said her whole family doesn't share her enthusiasm.
"My husband and son don't care for it," she said. "That's why I'm getting my son the faded-looking one."
Merchandise featuring the new design dominates the shelves at the two RainBowTique stores.Discounted items with the old rainbow logo will be available at the Manoa campus bookstore, says Cajala.
"People keep asking if the rainbow will come back," he said.
Even if it's no longer a part of the football team's official nickname, "rainbow" is embedded in the name of the UH stores exclusively selling merchandise featuring the new logos.
