and another Benny HRStar-Bulletin wire services
NEW YORK -- Before the New York Mets came to bat in their eventual 4-2 victory over the St. Louis Cardinals yesterday at Shea Stadium, Niela Agbayani went to get some food.
She didn't make it back to her seat in time to see husband Benny Agbayani's lead-off home run.
Benny, who played most of this year as a substitute before being given the starting job in left field, finished the game with two hits. The former Hawaii Pacific University star has eight homers this season.
The Mets have four leadoff homers this year, including one by Agbayani on June 16 at Milwaukee. Jon Nunally (May 3 at San Francisco) and Lenny Harris (July 18 at Toronto) also accomplished the feat.
