Police successfully waited out a 36-year-old man, who surrendered early today without incident after barricading himself in a Sunset Beach home for nearly 14 hours.

The roadway between Ke Nui and Hoalua Street in the area of the home at 59-114A Kamehameha Highway had to be closed at 4:40 p.m. yesterday due to the incident. It was reopened today soon after 5 a.m.

The man reportedly was armed with a rifle but did not have a weapon when he surrendered, police said.

Police plan to execute a search warrant on the house later today to determine whether the suspect had a firearm.

Police responded to the home when a witness reported seeing the man throwing objects into the window of the house at 3:40 p.m.

The man was later seen inside the house pointing a rifle at the witness.

The man was taken into custody and booked for first-degree terroristic threatening.
