Former Wahine players

make the final cut for the
U.S. Olympic team
Star-BulletinIt's official. The U.S. Olympic women's volleyball team was announced yesterday, and former University of Hawaii All-Americans Robyn Ah Mow and Heather Bown are on it.
"It was a big sigh of relief for everyone," Bown said. "I don't know if I was shocked, but I'm happy because I knew I did a lot of work in kind of a crash course the past five or six months."
It will be the first Olympics for both players, who have been training with the national team in Colorado Springs, Colo.
U.S. coach Mick Haley cut middle Benishe Dillard and libero Laura Johnson to get down to 12 players. The two will be alternates but not accompany the team to Sydney in September.
Ah Mow, a setter, said she was "excited and relieved" to be named to the final roster.
The team plays Germany today before leaving Monday for the FIVB World Grand Prix. The U.S. will play China, Russia, Cuba, Brazil, Italy, Croatia and Japan in Macao, Malaysia, the Philippines, and China.
Members of the team are: outside hitters Tara Cross Battle (Houston), Demetria Sance (San Antonio) and Logan Tom (Salt Lake City); middle blockers Danielle Scott (Baton Rouge, La.), Mickisha Hurley (Miami) and Bown (Yorba Linda, Calif.); setter/outside hitter Kerri Walsh (Saratoga, Calif.); setters Charlene Tagaloa (Las Vegas) and Ah Mow (Honolulu); libero Stacy Sykora (Burleson, Texas), and outside position players Sarah Noriega (Ulysses, Kan.) and Allison Weston (Papillon, Neb.)
