Star-BulletinThe owners of the Four Seasons Resort Maui at Wailea have put the 380-room luxury hotel on the market.
SCP (Maui 5) Inc., one of the original developers, has hired the investment banking firm of Jones Lang LaSalle Hotels to market the world-class, oceanfront hotel.
"This is the ultimate trophy property," said Arthur Buser, executive vice president of Jones Land LaSalle.
"Many consider it to be the best hotel in Hawaii, so we expect the resort to be highly sought after," he said today.
SCP, an affiliate of Japan-based Shimizu Construction Co., did not state an asking price. But hotel industry brokers believe the resort will fetch a high price given the high occupancy and room rates in the Wailea area. While the hotel sales have been relatively sluggish during the past decade statewide, the Maui market has remained strong, said Ron Watanabe, managing director for Insignia/ESG Hotel Partners.
"I think it's an excellent time to sell especially in Wailea," Watanabe said.
The hotel, which opened in 1990, was developed by Shimizu and TSA International at a cost of about $180 million. Shimizu later took over full ownership of the resort.
