At Camp Baywatch the kids will get swimming and CPR instruction, ride on Los Angeles County lifeguard boats, go tandem surfing, visit the Santa Monica Pier Amusement Park, attend a circus and a synchronized swimming demonstration with Olympic Gold Medalist Becky Lancer, and learn hockey from Los Angeles Kings Hockey players. The camp was created in 1994 by "Baywatch" producer Greg Bonann, fellow lifeguard friend Richard Mark, and "Baywatch" writer Tai Collins, the camp executive director.
The nonprofit foundation provides activities year round, and also sponsors on-going projects like the South Los Angeles Little League and a swimming program for inner city youth.
The camp is run by volunteers; all funds donated are used for the children. Airfare to California from Hawaii is being provided by Hawaiian Airlines.
When "Baywatch" filmed on the Big Island several years ago, Hawaiian Airlines and the Hilton Waikoloa Hotel sponsored a stay for six kids from Los Angeles who took part in an episode, learned some Hawaiian customs and language and swam with dolphins.
Camp Baywatch Foundation is at 15237 Sunset Blvd., Suite 94, Pacific Palisades, CA 90272; (310)-302-9312.
