Yao named to

lead UH RegentsLily K. Yao, vice chairwoman of First Hawaiian Bank, was chosen chairwoman of the University of Hawaii's Board of Regents yesterday. Allan Ikawa, president of Big Island Candies in Hilo, was picked as vice chairman.
Yao, who served as board chairwoman in 1996 and 1997, succeeds Donald C.W. Kim. Both Yao and Ikawa have one year remaining in their terms as regents.
The board yesterday also voted to approve a board committee's recommendation to retain the Chicago headhunter firm Heidrick and Struggles to conduct the search for candidates to fill the UH president's post.
The firm had conducted a similar search when UH President Fujio Matsuda retired in 1984.
