Kauai service to daily
Star-BulletinUnited Airlines said today it will step up its San Francisco-Kauai service to one flight a day, starting Oct. 31.
The airline, which currently flies San Francisco-Lihue on Saturdays and Sundays, said the added service is in response to demand.
"United's weekend flights to Kauai have been well supported by the traveling public," said Norm Reeder, managing director for Hawaii. He said United is confident that its customers will welcome the flexibility of being able to fly any day of the week. The added service will use the same type of aircraft used in the weekend flights, the Boeing 757 with 24 seats in first class and 158 in economy. United already has a daily 757 flight between Los Angeles and Lihue.
United also announced it has appointed Hawaii-born Mike Navares as general manager of operations in Honolulu. Navares, who has been with the airline 16 years, had been acting general manager since March and before that he was the airline's manager of ramp and cargo functions at Honolulu Airport. He will report to Reeder and is responsible for the Honolulu side of the domestic service to and from Chicago, Los Angeles and San Francisco and the international Honolulu-Tokyo service.
Serving Hawaii since 1947, United has about 20 mainland-Hawaii flights a day and one a day between Honolulu and Tokyo.
