Fastball leads
the way to
Kaneohe’s BayFest

There'll be three days of family fun in Kaneohe this weekend as the Marine Corps Base Hawaii plays host to Ocean Concepts BayFest 2000 today through Sunday.

There will be E.K. Fernandez rides, games and food throughout, and highlights of the annual aquatic carnival will include Grucci Brother fireworks 9:15 to 9:30 p.m. today and tomorrow, Go Bananas kayak rides and AT&T Coconut Island boat rides from noon to 6 p.m. Saturday and Sunday, and the appearance of Hollywood Records artist Fastball Saturday night. More highlights follow:

Today

6:30 p.m. -- Check out the slams and Tombstone Piledrivers at the Coors Light Summer Slamboree, where "Bone Crusher" fights to remain the Pro-Wrestling Hawaii Champion.

8 p.m. -- Pure Heart and R&B group 112 perform.

Tomorrow

2:30 p.m. -- An elite team of Kaneohe Bay marines and sailors will be hitting the bay and storming the beach in authentic combat simulations.

4 p.m. -- For those who just want to ogle, the Europa BodySearch Fitness Competition will judge men and women in swimsuit and fitness attire. (They say personality and interview skills count.)

8 p.m. -- Natural Vibrations performs, followed by Fastball, playing from 9:30 to 11 p.m. Hailing from Austin, Texas, Fastball is known for jangly alt hits such as "Warm Fuzzy Feeling" and "Fire Escape." One of the band's best known hits is "The Way."

Sunday

1 p.m. -- Individuals and groups show their singing, dancing, acting and comic skills during McDonald's Teen Talent Showcase.

2 p.m. -- Watch four-person teams sink or swim in Orincon Hawaii's Bathtub Regatta, with their homemade boats.

6:30 p.m. -- Three Plus performs, followed by Kapena and Fiji.

Events are free with BayFest admission of $3.50 for civilian adults (12 and up), $3 for active duty and retired military and family; $1.50 for kids 4 to 11; free for under 3. Three-day passes are $10.

Oceanic Keiki Club and My TV card holders pay $1 admission Saturday. There will be a military discount as well.
