Police canvassed the area around Ena Road early today looking for witnesses who may been at the Evolution Waikiki nightclub last Tuesday when Carlos V. Carrillo was reportedly beaten.

Investigators went out at midnight and spent about five hours on the street, homicide Lt. William Kato said.

Carrillo, 28, has not been seen since he reportedly fought with an employee of the nightclub a week ago.

Yesterday, police went to the Waimanalo Gulch landfill at Nanakuli to search for a bloody carpet from the nightclub that was supposedly dumped there.

Police continued the landfill search today.

A section about 15 yards by 15 yards is being scraped down to the ground by a bulldozer, said Officer Joe Self of the missing persons detail.

He estimates the refuse heap is 15 feet deep.

Police released a 28-year-old man who was being questioned about Carrillo's disappearance.

Carrillo, who is Mexican American, is 5 feet 10 inches, weighs about 180 pounds, has a medium build, fair complexion, black hair and brown eyes.

Anyone with information on Carrillo's whereabouts is encouraged to contact the Honolul Police Department's missing persons detail at 529-3115. People can also call CrimeStoppers at 955-8300.
