Verizon names exec to lead West region
Verizon Communications, formed by the recent merger of GTE Corp. and Bell Atlantic Corp., has appointed an executive with Hawaii experience to a new position, Pacific regional president. Timothy J. McCallion has spent 24 years with GTE subsidiaries, including government affairs posts in California and Hawaii and most recently, vice president for regulatory and government affairs at Stamford, Conn.-based GTE Service Corp. In his new post, McCallion will be based in Thousand Oaks, Calif., and have overall responsibility for Verizon activities in Hawaii and 11 other Western states.The company also announced that Warren H. Haruki, a 23-year veteran of GTE Hawaiian Tel and its president since 1992, will continue that work as president of Verizon Hawaii.
Kauai co-op to keep utility's executive
Kauai Island Utility Co-op, the cooperative that plans to take over Kauai's electric utility, said it will keep Denny Polosky on as its president. A 30-year veteran of the utility business, Polosky is vice president and general manager of Kauai Electric. Polosky joined Citizens Utilities Co. in 1978 and Kauai Electric in 1981, after Citizens bought the Kauai operation.KIUC is seeking Public Utilities Commission approval to buy Kauai Electric from Citizens for $270 million and says it hopes to close the deal by year-end.
