He had 13 strikeouts and walked five to earn his eighth victory of the season. Spurgeon was pulled from the game due to a pitch limit.
But his effort led to a promotion to the Bowie (Md.) Baysox in the Class AA Eastern League. After celebrating his 24th birthday Wednesday, Spurgeon pitched a two-hit shutout against the Erie Seawolves Thursday night. He walked three, fanned five and allowed just one runner past first base in pitching the first complete game of the season for the Baysox. Bowie won, 3-0.
