Jerome Williams, 18, the youngest pitcher in the California League, won a battle with Mudville Nine flame thrower Nick Neugebauer, 19, Tuesday. Williams allowed just two hits in 7 innings, walked no one and struck out four. He earned his third victory of the season in host San Jose's 1-0 win.Kenn Wakakuwa has changed teams again. The Tampa Bay Devil Rays have assigned him to Hudson Valley (Wappingers Falls, N.Y.) in the short-season Class A New York-Penn League. In Wakakuwa's first four professional games, he played for three different teams.
There now are seven players with Hawaii ties in the New York-Penn League.
Matt Wheeler was traded by the Evansville Otters to the Johnstown (Pa.) Johnnies last Sunday. His final statistics for Evansville are included in this report.
Fletcher Lee is on the disabled list. The move is to allowed Lee to get into game shape and for salary cap considerations according to Yuma Bulldogs general manager Dave McDowell.
