to nationalsLaine Malson of Hilo then birdied the fifth playoff hole to edge Maui's Kalani Kahalekulu for second place.
Hamamoto and Malson qualify to play in the USGA Championship in Oregon, July 31-Aug. 5.
All-Stars split in softball
The Hawaii All-Stars split a pair of games in the Fireworks Invitational ASA 18-and-under girls' softball tournament in Colorado yesterday.Hawaii's Jerri Obrero pitched a one-hitter but took a 1-0 loss against the Colorado Batbusters when a run scored on an error.
The All-Stars rebounded on the strength of a Shannon Tabion three-hitter to down the Kansas City Belles, 5-0, in the double elimination tournament.
The All-Stars could play as many as seven games today -- as long as they keep winning.
The tourney ends tomorrow.
Pilots tip Island Movers
The Anchorage Pilots held off the Hawaii Island Movers, 6-5, yesterday in Alaska League baseball play at Rainbow Stadium.The Movers took a 3-0 lead in the first inning on Chris Catanzaro's two-run double and Duke Sardinha's RBI single.
But the Pilots went ahead 4-3 with three runs in the second frame and one in the third, and they led the rest of the way.
Sardinha also had a double for the Movers.
Randy Walter, Mike DiRosa and Scott Dragicevich each went 2-for-4 for the Pilots.
Isle team 2-0-1 in Germany
The Under-15 Red Bulls of the Hawaii Youth Soccer Association began a tour of Europe this week with two victories and a tie against German teams in the Heidelberg area.The Red Bulls beat German Forest Red, 3-1, and German Forest Green, 1-0, and played Steinhausen to a 4-4 standoff. They now move on to the Netherlands for two matches.
