to Olympic softball teamOdamura, a four-time academic All-American, was a two-time Division II West Regional selection for the Vulcans (1998-99). She holds nine UHH career records, including hits (227), slugging percentage (.548) and assists (524).
Hamamoto, Ito qualify
Jarett Hamamoto of Hilo and Aiea's Merynn Ito won their respective divisions of the Aloha Section PGA Junior Championship golf tournament yesterday at The Links at Kuilima.The two have qualified to represent Hawaii in the 25th PGA Junior Championships, Aug. 23-26, at Palm Beach Gardens, Fla.
Hamamoto carded a 74 yesterday to tie Hilo's Laine Malson at 148. Hamamoto then won the boys' division title on the second hole of a sudden-death playoff.
Ito finished at 73-144 for a two-stroke victory over Kauai's Rachael Kyono in the girls' division.
Vic-Maui race sets sail
The biennial Vic-Maui International Yacht Race, a 2,308-mile event from Victoria, British Columbia, to Lahaina, Maui, began yesterday.Twenty yachts are participating in the 17th event, including three representing the Lahaina Yacht Club. The first yachts are expected to arrive July 7.

New football league

Rainbow Soccer opens
The 20th Rainbow Soccer Tournament, featuring more than 100 teams from Hawaii, the U.S. mainland and Norway, kicks off tomorrow with opening ceremonies at 3 p.m. at Kapiolani Park.Play begins at 11:30 a.m. Friday and continues through the finals on July 4.
