Star-BulletinBrig. Gen. Antonio Taguba, a 1968 Leilehua High School graduate, has been picked to become commanding general of the U.S. Army Community and Family Support Center in Alexandria, Va.
Taguba, an Army armor officer, is now assistant division commander of the 24th Infantry Division at Fort Jackson, S.C.
He has commanded a battalion in the 2nd Infantry Division in South Korea and a brigade of the 4th Infantry Division at Fort Hood, Tex.
He is the son of Tomas and Maria Taguba.
Seventy-five percent of the nation's servicemen and women will receive pay raises of .5 to 5.5 percent July 1 as the final phase of pay increases approved by Congress last year kicks in.
In January, service members received a 4.8 percent raise and several retirement benefits.
A medal initially offered by the South Korean government more than 50 years ago is now available to U.S. veterans of the Korean War.
The Republic of Korea Service Medal will be provided at no cost to qualifying veterans or their surviving next of kin.
To apply, veterans who served in the Korean War must provide copies of their discharge papers -- commonly known as DD-214, or National Guard Form 22.

Pearl Harbor: Capt. Ronald Hughes relieved Capt. Henry Sanford as commanding officer of Pearl Harbor Naval Station.Fort Shafter: Maj. Gen. James Donald, U.S. Army Pacific deputy commanding general, will become deputy chief of staff at U.S. Army Forces Command at McPherson, Ga.
Pacific Fleet: Rear Adm. Kirkland Donald will become a new deputy chief of staff at Makalapa.
