Stanford pitcher Justin Wayne and Pepperdine catcher Dane Sardinha have been selected first-team All-Americans by Baseball America magazine.

Wayne, a Punahou School graduate, and Sardinha, a Kamehameha Schools product, were joined by two other players from Hawaii on the magazine's three teams.

Named to the second team was Nebraska pitcher Shane Komine, a Kalani High School graduate. Arizona shortshop Keoni DeRenne, an Iolani School product, was a third-team pick.

All except Komine, a sophomore, were selected in the Major League draft earlier this month. Komine, the Big 12 Player of the Year, will be eligible for the draft next year.

Wayne, the losing pitcher in the College World Series championship game last Saturday, was the fifth player taken overall in the draft. He is currently negotiating with the Montreal Expos.

Wayne, who set a Stanford record for wins (15-4 this season), was previously selected to All-American teams by The Sporting News and Collegiate Baseball.

Sardinha was taken in the second round by the Cincinnati Reds as the 46th overall pick. He has not begun negotiations with the club.

Sardinha, who is tied for the career home-run record with the Waves (45), was also named to All-American teams by Collegiate Baseball and The Sporting News.

DeRenne was selected in the 12th round by the Atlanta Braves. He signed with the club last week and is the starting shortstop with Atlanta's Class A New York-Penn League team, the Jamestown (N.Y.) Jammers.

Komine was a first-team All-American pick by the National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association.
