Sony Music

Experience
Fishbone

Pipeline Cafe will be ground zero for Fishbone, when the band brings its hyper-kinetic live show to Honolulu 9 p.m. July 25.

The band, with its cross-pollinated mix of ska, funk and punk, had its breakthrough in 1985, with the hit "Party at Ground Zero," from its self-titled EP.

Fishbone, fronted by singer Angelo Moore, continues to raise a joyful noise in clubs and on disc. The group's latest recording, "Fishbone & the Familyhood Nexperience Presents ...," is a tribute to their eclectic background and the musicians that have inspired them. Many contribute to the recording, including George Clinton, Rick James, Jane's Addiction's Perry Farrell, the Red Hot Chili Peppers' Flea, Charles and Ivan Neville, even Donny Osmond.

Tickets are $16.50 in advance, available at the cafe at 805 Pohukaina St., Jelly's Music-Puck's Alley and Pearl Kai, Jelly's Radio Free Music Center, Tower Records and Video and Sanctuary Salon. Tickets will be $19.50 at the door.

For more information, call Pipeline at 589-1999.

Coming to the big screen

Scheduled to open on Oahu Friday:

Chicken Run

Rated G
This animated heroes-out-of-hens story combines "The Great Escape" and "Hogan's Heroes." "Chicken Run" is about an imprisoned group of birds who have two choices in life: Lay eggs regularly or become the next evening's meal for their captors, the Tweedys. Their plucky young leader, Ginger (voiced by Julia Sawalha, veteran of the British comedy series "Absolutely Fabulous") tries to liberate her fellow hens innumerable times. But it's Mel Gibson's character, Rocky the rooster, who may finally give the birds the skills they need to break free.

Me, Myself & Irene

Rated PG-13
Jim Carrey stars as a Rhode Island state trooper who suffers from split-personality disorder. After years of being treated like a doormat by absolutely everyone and making Barney Fife look like a standup guy, the trooper finally snaps. Unless on medication, he's foul-mouthed, hard-drinking and hot to trot. Then his split personalities fall in love with the same woman.
