Thousand-car pileup

By Ken Ige, Star-Bulletin
Roland Aton, supervisor at Hawaii Metal Recycling, strolls in
front of approximately 1,000 junked cars. The pile is not usually
this large but the company's automobile shredder is down for
repairs and maintenance. HMR normally can shred 100 cars
an hour and takes in between 100 and 300 cars a day. The cars
are shredded into fist-sized pieces for recycling.
