Making magick

Star-BulletinThe painted dragons, Gustav and Empress, call attention to 1151 12th Ave., the new home of Prosperity Corner. Inside, the store is painted in faux stone because owner D.J. Colbert always wanted a castle.
Most people would call it a metaphysical store, filled as it is with candles, crystals, incense, feng shui fountains, tarot cards and spell books. Colbert calls it a 'magick' store.
"Some people think, 'Oh, metaphysical, it's bad.' No! We all need magic in our lives to get up in the morning."
Prosper is just what the shop has done, but prosperity has little to do with money, in Colbert's opinion. "It's just being able to do what fills you with joy."
Colbert's joy is the shop, which started as a Waikiki kiosk 14 years ago. The current shop has 2,100 square feet, with space for classes in candle-making, soap-making and other crafts.
Guests can sip tea and get a tea leaf reading from Colbert's sister and partner, Niki Taittinger, in the tea room. And in the back is a temporary tattoo station, developed by Colbert and TV and film makeup artist Bryan Furer.
Also popular, mojo bags for $4.50, to be filled with 99-cent packets of herbs and botanicals, and ingredients such as Dragon's Blood Powder, a palm resin used for protection or to quiet a noisy house. Try this on the neighbors sometime.
Colbert is not finished. She has plans to introduce father-daughter teas, Gothic clothing, massage therapy and an "environmental shower," which she describes as "a cave with a waterfall and piped-in music where you can let the world wash away."

but weekends are also made for shopping.
