This week's "Hawaii's Kitchen" is a rebroadcast of a show that originally aired Feb. 7, 1999. It featured recipes prepared by Chef Tarek Guirguis of The Pyramids. The recipes were printed in the Feb. 10, 1999 Star-Bulletin and may be found online here in our back issues.
"Hawaii's Kitchen" airs at 5:30 p.m. Sunday and is rebroadcast at the same time Saturday on KHON Fox 2.
Sansei specials: Grand-opening benefit parties at Sansei Seafood Restaurant and Sushi Bar raised $55,000 for Kuakini Medical Center and $7,000 for the Culinary Institute of the Pacific at Kapiolani Community College. Chef D.K. Kodama planned two nights of parties to celebrate the opening of his new place in Restaurant Row.
The first night, featuring members of the Hawaiian Island Chefs organization, drew 500 guests and benefitted Kuakini.
The second night, featuring all-star chefs such as Alan Wong and Roy Yamaguchi, drew 575 to benefit KCC.

"All-American Apple Pie Recipe Contest": The Culinary Institute of America will award 10 scholarships ranging from $25,000-$2,500 to freshmen entering into its bachelor's degree program in culinary arts management or baking and pastry arts management between November 2000 and June 2001. Entrants must submit an application along with their favorite apple pie recipe and an essay about apples by Aug. 15. Call 1-800-285-4627.
