Star-BulletinTickets for late-summer exhibition games featuring the U.S. Olympic men's and women's basketball teams at the Stan Sheriff Center will finally go on sale Tuesday. They will be available through the University of Hawaii and ETM outlets.
The teams, featuring top NBA and WNBA players, will play four games on three days in late August-early September as part of each team's pre-Olympic training.
Tickets will be available at the following locations:
University of Hawaii Stan Sheriff Box Office (8 a.m.-4 p.m. Mondays-Fridays);
Ward Centre Rainbowtique (10 a.m.-9 p.m. Mondays-Saturdays, and 10 a.m.-5 p.m. Sundays);
UH Campus Center (8:30 a.m.-4:30 p.m. Mondays-Fridays), or by calling 808-944-BOWS (12 noon-4 p.m. on June 13 only, 9 a.m.-4 p.m. Mondays-Fridays).ETM Web site (http://www.etm.com)
Tickets will also be available through all ETM kiosks or by calling ETM at 888-ETM-TIXS.The U.S. men's "Dream Team" will open the series of games Aug. 31, facing the Canadian Olympic Team in a 4 p.m. (local time) game.
Ticket prices for that game are $35 and $18 for the general public, and $13 for military personnel (limited to 4 tickets per I.D).
Anyone purchasing a ticket for the Aug. 31 game will also receive free of charge a ticket to the U.S. women's game on Sept. 3.
On Sept. 2, the U.S. women and men will play a doubleheader.
The women will face 1996 Olympic silver medalist Brazil in a 10:30 a.m. (local time) game, then the Dream Team will meet a USA Basketball Select Team, composed of the top available college players, in a 1 p.m. (local time) contest.
Ticket prices for the doubleheader are $35 and $18 for the general public, and $13 for military personnel ( limited to 4 tickets per I.D.).
The U.S. women will close out the Hawaii exhibition series on Sept. 3 against the USA Basketball R. William Jones Cup Team, a squad made up of top collegiate players.
Game time is 11 a.m. (local time), all tickets are general admission and cost $7.
The 12-member Dream Team includes: Ray Allen (Milwaukee Bucks); Vin Baker (Seattle SuperSonics); Vince Carter (Toronto Raptors); Tim Duncan (San Antonio Spurs); Kevin Garnett (Minnesota Timberwolves); Tim Hardaway (Miami Heat); Grant Hill (Detroit Pistons); Allan Houston (New York Knicks); Jason Kidd (Phoenix Suns); Alonzo Mourning (Miami Heat); Gary Payton (Seattle SuperSonics) and Steve Smith (Portland Trail Blazers).
The U.S. women feature Ruthie Bolton-Holifield (Sacramento Monarchs / McClain, Miss.); Teresa Edwards (Cairo, Ga.); Yolanda Griffith (Sacramento Monarchs / Chicago, Ill.); Chamique Holdsclaw (Washington Mystics / Astoria, N.Y.); Lisa Leslie (Los Angeles Sparks / Hawthorne, Calif.); Nikki McCray (Washington Mystics / Collierville, Tenn.); DeLisha Milton (Los Angeles Sparks / Riceboro, Ga.); Katie Smith (Minnesota Lynx / Logan, Ohio); Dawn Staley (Charlotte Sting / Philadelphia, Pa.); Natalie Williams (Utah Starzz / Taylorsville, Utah) and Kara Wolters (Indiana Fever / Holliston, Mass.).
One additional player is expected to be named to the team at a later date.
As was previously reported, the U. S. men will train for the Olympic Games on Maui at the Lahaina Civic Center from Aug. 26-Sept. 2.
The women will train Aug. 29 - Sept. 3 at the University of Hawaii.
The Olympic men's basketball competition will take place Sept. 17 - Oct. 1 in Sydney.
The women's basketball competition will be conducted Sept. 16-30.
