Uso, Laboy, Wills
transfering to play for UH

Stanford wide receiver Tafiti Uso is coming home, looking to play at the University of Hawaii.

After redshirting for one year, Uso will have one year left of left eligibility to play for the Rainbows.

Uso was one of the state's top high school offensive players as a Punahou School senior in 1996.

Also, Utah State defensive end Travis Laboy, son of former UH defensive lineman Cliff Laboy, will transfer to play for the Rainbows, along with Nebraska defensive end Colin Wills.

Both will have to redshirt this season. Laboy will have three years of eligibility, while Wills will have two.

Volleyball title to KCC

The Kamehameha Canoe Club won the Aloha State Games women's open division volleyball tournament yesterday with a 21-13, 15-21, 16-14 final-round victory over Hopps.

Low Rider won the third-place match against TTFNby forfeit.

In the girls' 18-and-under division, the Palama Girlz defeated Pauoa in yesterday's championship game, 21-7, 21-17.

Firemen's softball tourney

The Chief Alexander J. Cartwright, Jr. Softball Tournament, hosted by the Honolulu Fire Department, will be held Sunday as the department celebrates its 150th anniversary.

The tournament will run from 8:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. at Cartwright Field on Makiki Street.

World Youth hoopfest

Teams from around the world, and some of the best young players in the country will be on the Big Island next month for the World Youth Basketball Tournament.

In its third year, the WYBT will feature teams from Australia, New Zealand, Canada and the U.S. mainland.

Seven-footer Tyson Chandler, the top-rated high school junior player in the country, will play in the tournament, which runs from July 26-31 at Kealakehe and Konawaena high schools

Tennis players wanted

The Oahu Tennis League, which begins its six-week summer season July 17, is looking for singles and doubles players.

Applications will be accepted until July 7.

The league features six skill levels, and players coordinate match times. There is also a post-season tournament.

The registration fee is $25 for singles and $40 for doubles. For more information, call 254-5955.

UH basketball camps

Rainbow players Troy Ostler, Todd Fields, Mike McIntyre and Lance Takaki were to join head coach Riley Wallace and his staff today for the opening of the University of Hawaii men's basketball summer camp at the UH campus.

The camp, for boys and girls ages 5 through 17, has two sessions this month.

The first runs through Sunday; the second is June 12-14.
