Makena Golf Course pro Brian Sasada shot a 71 yesterday to win the Maui Open by one shot at the Wailea Gold Course. Sasada takes Maui Open
Sasada finished with a 215 to beat first-round leader and defending champion Henry Sieradski who also shot a final-round 71.
Jeremy Eastman (71) was third at 218, followed by Jerry Mullen (70) at 219 and Larry Stubblefield (73) at 221.
Hutchings wins King's Race
Cory Hutchings of New Zealand beat out Australia's Health Collie and Steve Pullen in the 11th annual Outrigger's Waikiki King's Race yesterday.Hutchings won the ocean ironman event, which drew a record 60 entrants, in 50 minutes and 24 seconds on the final day of the Hawaiian Airlines Oahu OceanFest. Collie finished in 50:36, Pullen in 50:44.
Hawaii's top finisher was Mike Trisler in 54:09.
Karla Gilbert of Australia paced the women's field.
Physical activity session
Kaho'omiki, Hawaii's Council on Physical Activity, will meet from 1:30 to 3:30 p.m. Wednesday at HMSA's Keeaumoku Street headquarters.The council is comprised of health, physical activity, community service and sports groups and the public.

Netters to nationals
The Pearl Harbor Netters will represent Hawaii in the U.S. Tennis Association's national 3.5 senior men's tournament Oct. 26-29 at San Diego.Netters team members are Dick Chanslor, Les Ihara, Alvin Kogachi, Kiyoshi Matsuo, Larry Mun, Roy Naito, Vincent Vassallo and Bennie Carlos.
Wong second in Mexico
Punahou graduate Kevin Wong and partner Rob Heidger finished in second place in the Mexico Open beach volleyball tournament yesterday at Rosarito Beach.Wong and Heidger lost in the finals to Dax Holdren and Todd Rogers 15-12. The runners-up split $18,000.
Pacific Cup soccer set
The Outrigger Pacific Cup Soccer Tournament is this Friday through Sunday, with eight adult teams playing in two groups.Group A has the Under-19 Select Bulls, A.S. Excelsior Tahiti, Kap Park and Team Fuj-Hilliong
Group B includes Vaiete S.C., Latin Hawaii F.C., Maui Litton-PRC and Kauai Hui
Friday's matches are scheduled for 2:30 and 4:30 p.m. at two Kapiolani Park Fields and at 7 p.m. at Ala Wai Field. Saturday's matches are at 10 a.m. at Kapiolani Park and Waialae Iki Park followed by matches at 2 and 4 p.m. at Kapiolani Park.
On Sunday, the semifinals are at 10 a.m. with the finals at 3 p.m.at Kapiolani Park.
