Richardson movingBrandy Richardson, the top girls' basketball player in the state, is moving to Anaheim, Calif., this summer. She will attend La Brea High School for her senior year.
Kalaheo coach Chico Furtado confirmed that Richardson is leaving. The move was speculated for several weeks. Richardson, the Star-Bulletin's Ms. Basketball as a sophomore who also led Kalaheo to the state final last month, said the move has more to do with family concerns than basketball -- her grandfather lives in Anaheim and is ill, she said.
Richardson was unavailable for comment yesterday.
Summer league I
Boys' and girls' high school basketball summer league play at Iolani School begins Monday and runs through July 15.The season starts with six boys' games Monday at the Iolani Gym. Girls' games begin June 13. Admission is $2 for adults and $1 for children.
Also, Iolani hosts a clinic June 8-10, and the Basketball in Paradise tournament sponsored by Hawaii Winter Baseball with mainland teams June 28-July 1.
Summer league II
La Pietra Hawaii School for Girls hosts the Summer Basketball Development League For Girls and Women, June 12-Aug. 2.The league is open to high school, college and post-college female players. The fee is $40, with a $12 T-shirt optional.
Sign-up day is June 12, 5 p.m. Players will be evaluated and assigned to teams.
NFL players at clinic
Pro football players, including Chris Fuamutu-Ma'afala (St. Louis School/Pittsburgh Steelers), Chris Naeole (Kahuku High School/New Orleans Saints), Donnie Edwards (Kansas City Chiefs) and Bryant Westbrook (Detroit Lions) will participate in a clinic June 24-25 at Iolani School.Two players from each Hawaii high school will be invited to participate. Also, the public is invited to participate in a card show, autograph session and silent auction.
