Director Burton
awarded inaugural
‘Silversword’

WAIKEA, MAUI: Director Tim Burton, who helmed several blockbuster films including the first "Batman," "Edward Scissorhands," "Nightmare Before Christmas," "Peewee's Big Adventure," and most recently "Sleepy Hollow," tonight is receiving the inaugural Maui Film Festival Silversword Award for outstanding contribution in film.

Burton, 44, who has been in Hawaii the last few weeks scouting on Kauai, Lanai and Maui for a "Planet of the Apes" sequel, will receive the award at 7:45 p.m. at the outdoor theater Celestial Cinema at Wailea.

Following tonight's main feature - "Silent Comedies & The Alloy Orchestra" - there will be a special presentation of Burton's "Edward Scissorhands" in the outdoor state-of-the-art Dolby Sound-equipped venue
