Girls to play in
hoops showcase

Four dozen of the top girls' basketball players in the state will take part in the inaugural Hawaii High School Girls Showcase June 8-10 at the Kalaheo High gym.

Game times will 6 and 7:30 p.m. each day. Admission is $5 for adults, $2 for students.

The 48 standouts will be split into four teams for the tourney, a benefit for the Hawaii Select team that will play in national tournaments at Portland, Ore., and Las Vegas this summer.

OCC spikers win title

Honolulu's Outrigger Canoe Club won the 50s age-group championship in the United States Volleyball Association national tournament yesterday at Columbus, Ohio, beating California's King Mountain Fog team, 25-21, 25-22, in the title match.

Outrigger finished fourth in the 40s competition.

Big Island tourney lineup

Oklahoma, Oregon State, San Francisco, Long Beach State, Tulane, Appalachian State and Montana State will join host Hawaii-Hilo in the ninth annual Big Island Invitational Basketball Tournament Nov. 24-26 at Afook-Chinen Civic Auditorium in Hilo.

The first-round pairings are USF-Long Beach State, Oregon State-Appalachian State, Oklahoma-Montana State and Tulane-UH Hilo.
