Five Brigham Young University-Hawaii tennis players have been named to the Pacific West Academic All-Conference team. Five Seasiders gain honors
Senior Karin Ptaszek, junior Helena Nordwall and sophomore Petra Gaspar from the women's team and juniors Harry Needle and Logan Woolley from the men's team were honored.
Vulcans ranked 28th
The University of Hawaii-Hilo women's tennis team finished 28th in the final NCAA Division II rankings.Erin Gavin, a senior, finished 31st in the singles rankings. She also was named to the Pacific West Academic All-Conference team.
In the West Region Poll, UHH was seventh, Gavin was 10th and Francine Amoa finished 21st. Gavin and Amoa were ranked seventh in doubles.
San Francisco soccer visits
Dylans F.C., a San Francisco soccer team, will play two exhibition matches here.The first is Friday against Latin Hawaii at 7 p.m. at Ala Wai Field.
The second is Sunday at 2 p.m. at Waimanalo Field against a combined team with players from Dawgs, Amazon and Kamikaze.
Immediately following, Lanikai and Latin Hawaii play for the MISO championship at 3:45 p.m.
UH-Hilo volleyball signee
Emily Hutchinson, a 6-foot outside hitter from Newport, Ore., has signed a letter of intent to play volleyball for the University of Hawaii-Hilo. Hutchinson, the third recruit signed by Vulcans head coach Sharon Peterson, was an all-Oregon pick, two-time Valco League first-team selection and 1999 league MVP.
Miyake sets fishing mark
A one-pound, seven-ounce smallmouth bass caught by Kerri Miyake last year in Kauai's Waita Reservoir has been approved by the International Game Fish Association as a state line-class record-setter on 12-pound test line.
