Wahine Degen named
By Dave Reardon
All-American, again
Star-BulletinBeing named a second-team All-American never gets old for Dana Degen.
The University of Hawaii softball player capped her senior season with second-team designated player honors on the 2000 Louisville Slugger/National Fastpitch Coaches Association NCAA Division I All-America team. The team was announced Wednesday.
Degen also was named a second-team All-American in 1997 and 1999.
"It's nice to be recognized like that," said Degen, contacted in Ohio, where she is training with the Ohio Pride of the Women's Professional Softball League. "When my mom told me I got a big grin on my face. It's a nice way to cap off my Hawaii career."
"I think it's great for her to get second-team honors," said Wahine coach Bob Coolen. "It's a great honor for Dana. It was one of her goals coming into college to be an All-American. She ended her career on a high note."
