Party welcomes
police station

A block party 5:30 to 10 p.m. today will celebrate the opening of the Chinatown Police Station at the corner of Hotel and Maunakea streets.

Hotel between Nuuanu and Maunakea will be closed for the event, which will feature food booths, two entertainment stages with Chinese cultural performances, the Celtic Pipes and Drums, the Royal Hawaiian Band Glee Club, the Honolulu Fire Department's five-member band FireHouse and other performers.

The event will open with 100,000 firecrackers, a Taoist blessing, several lion dancers and a dragon blessing.

Participating restaurants include Indigo, Havana Cabana, Murphy's Bar and Grill and Garden of Saigon.

Parking is free in the Smith-Pauahi municipal lot and at Kekaulike Courtyards and Marin Tower.
