Go east, young
Menehunes

After nearly 30 years as a Western Division power, Moanalua will move to the Eastern Division of the Oahu Interscholastic Association this fall. Moanalua has been in the Western Division since the school opened in 1972.

The realignment was needed to accommodate the public school league's newest entry: Kapolei High School in Leeward Oahu. Both divisions will now have 11 members instead of the Western having 12 and the Eastern having 10. "It will definitely make it a little tougher to win the league,'' said Kailua boys' basketball coach Pete Smith, whose Mustangs had won six consecutive Eastern title prior to this season. "They've had a great program and a great tradition."

Besides strong boys' and girls' basketball programs, the Menehunes won the past two state girls' wrestling championships.
