Hawaii
THE sharks that caused the closing of Hanalei Beach the past few days were wayward creatures of the deep and not gossip mavens and papparazzi chasing down celebrities at the Princeville Resort. Hotel guests were disappointed by the closure, to be sure, but at least one of them will now have something to talk about when he next shows up on the Leno or Letterman TV late-nighters. That would be Ben Stiller, who with his new wife, actress Christine Taylor, chose Princeville Resort as a honeymoon destination. And who else do you know who took his parents along on his honeymoon? Also ensconced at Princeville are Anne Meara and Jerry Stiller, parents of Ben and a longtime successful comedy team before Jerry went on to steal the "Seinfeld Show" as the father of George Costanza, portrayed by Jason Alexander. Stiller is now one of the highlights of "King of Queens," while son Ben concentrates on a film career that includes "Something About Mary," an off-the-wall financial success, and currently, "Keeping the Faith." And who should drop by to say hello to the Stillers as they were chatting in the lobby after dinner but singer Sheryl Crow... THE baton has passed once again. Kane Fernandez, son of E.K. Fernandez, the man whose goal in life was to provide good, clean, affordable fun for the family at his E.K. Fernandez Shows, has seen the attraction taken over by E.K.'s grandson, Scott. He's looking forward to the Honolulu Jaycees 50th State Fair, slated to open May 26 at Aloha Stadium. Phantom relationship

He and wife Eleni are co-chairing the Honolulu Symphony Ball, so were allowed to sneak into a rehearsal and hear Paxton and Short sing selections from the Andrew Lloyd Webber blockbuster hit, "Phantom of the Opera." The next morning, Longwell was at the Hanohano Room where the same twosome were previewing songs from the Maury Yeston "Phantom," in which they're opening tonight at Diamond Head Theater ...OFF for Vienna to run the annual marathon there Sunday is ProComm P.R. woman Melissa Chang. She's anticipating more elbow room than in the Honolulu Marathon since it has only one-fifth the number of runners. Maybe she could waltz the 26 miles ... Before heading off for Vienna, Chang stopped off to do a bit of carbo-loading at Cafe Laufer and visit with Cyrus Goo. Who should be working the tables but entertainer Karen Keawehawaii, yucking it up with the customers. Was it celebrity employee night, Chang asked Goo. Karen interjected, "No, Cyrus needs me. I don't want any man to think he can do without me." ...
Saturday night Sunday
IF you caught the best of the 25th anniversary of "Saturday Night Live," which aired on NBC Sunday night -- go figure -- you remember how hilarious that show used to be. Alas, most of the talent has moved on and with a couple of exceptions, the replacements have been wanting. The Blues Brothers had me howling out loud as did the "Wild and Crazy Guys," Steve Martin and Dan Ackroyd. Today the show seems to have fallen into the trap of seeing how much naughtiness it can get away with ...
