Merynn Ito Athletes Of The Week
Aiea
Won the David Ishii Girls' State Golf Championship on Kauai by six strokes. She shot a 4-under 68 the first round, with five birdies, and a 3-over 75 the second round to finish the tournament with a 1-under 143.David Horswill
Kailua
Played a huge role in the Surfriders' OIA Tournament baseball victory. He pitched a six-inning no-hitter against Kalani while batting 3-for-4 with four RBIs and hurled the final three innings to pick up the title-game win against Mililani.

GIRLS' BASKETBALL
Brandy Richardson, Kalaheo: Scored a career-high 35 points to lead the Mustangs to victory in the OIA Championship game. She also had 12 rebounds and six steals. In a semifinal win, she scored 29 and grabbed 11 boards.Sharon Wahinekapu, Kalaheo: The Mustang point guard displayed impressive ballhandling skills and passing in running the offense and played relentless defense to help Kalaheo to the OIA title.
Maricris Sierra, Nanakuli: Scored 20 points to lead the Golden Hawks past Kahuku and into the title game, and netted 15 points against Kalaheo.
April Atuaia, Kahuku: Scored 15 points in a semifinal loss to Nanakuli and 15 more in a third-place game win.
Milia Macfarlane, Punahou: Scored 12 points, including a pair of treys, in a win over Iolani that clinched second place in the ILH.
Monica Tokoro, Iolani: Scored 18 of her team's 25 points, including two treys, in the loss to Punahou.
BASEBALL
Bruddah Choy Foo, Kailua: Was 2-for-3 in the OIA title game, including a two-run homer. He had four hits in the tournament and was walked twice.Ryan Exstrom, Kailua: Hit a grand slam against Leilehua and was 2-for-4 against Kalani.
Derek Costigan, Mililani: Went 5-for-7 in the final two games of the tournament-with three hits coming against Kailua-with one RBI.
Keola Casamina, Mililani: Had five hits in the tournament, with three doubles and a pair of RBIs.
Sadino Aquinaldo, Campbell: Was the winning pitcher against Kaiser and Aiea, and earned a save in the win vs. Kalani that secured a state tournament berth for the Tigers.
Dave Young, Kalani: Rapped a game-winning RBI single in an upset of Waianae and was 3-for-4 in the game.
Kevin Kam, Iolani: Was 2-for-3 in 7-6 win over Kamehameha in the ILH Tournament, including a grand slam. Also scored the winning run in the bottom of the seventh.
Bronson Sardinha, Kamehameha: Smacked a two-run homer in an ILH Tournament loss to Iolani and a two-run blast in a win against Punahou.
Peter Phillips, Punahou: Hurled an 8-inning shutout of Mid-Pacific, allowing just five hits in the 3-0 win.
TRACK AND FIELD
Ryan Schmidt, Kaahumanu Hou: Won three events at the MIL Championship Meet: high jump (6-7), long jump (22-9) and triple jump (46). All three were state bests for this year.Janeece Beauchamp, Baldwin: Won the 100 (12.5) and the 200 (25.9) and ran legs for two winning relay teams.
Morgan Clark, Seabury: Won the 1,500 (4:14) and the 3,000 (9:35) at the MIL meet.
Vera Simms, Mililani: Set two individual meet records (15.02 in 100HH and 43.26 in 300LH) and anchored a record-setting relay (4X400) at the OIA Championships. She also won the 100 (12.38) and the long jump (17-5).
Kim Higa, Roosevelt: Set a state-record with a 10-6 pole vault and ran a leg on the winning 4X100 relay.
Robby Philipp, Mililani: Won the 1,500 (meet record 4:10.06) and 800 (1:59.12) and ran a 52.4-split on the winning 4X400 relay.
Victoria Chang, Punahou: Ran away from the field to win the 3,000 (9:56.86) and 1,500 (4:39.16) at the ILH Championships.
Lauran Dignam, Iolani: Ran the fastest girl's 400 in the state this year (58.68) and won the 100 (12.59) and 200 (25.95).
Travis Ah King, Kamehameha: Ran the fastest boy's 300IH in the state this year (39.63) and won the 110HH (15.45).
BOYS' TENNIS
Bucky Jencks, Punahou: Won the ILH Singles Tournament April 27 and earned a state tournament berth. An incorrect player was credited with winning in last week's Honor Roll.
