Iona Pear Dance Theatre
Dennis Miller is the Sun King in "Gravity."

Iona Pear pays
homage to sun

The Iona Pear Dance Theatre will bring its acclaimed evening-length production, "Worshiping Sun," to Hawaii Theatre 8 p.m. May 19 and 20.

The piece draws its inspiration from Egyptian, Middle Easter, Hawaiian, Japanese and European sun myths, exploring aspects of fire, time, energy, spirituality, life and death.

Segments include "Gravity," performed by Dennis Miller, Malia Oliver and David DeBlieck atop massive thrones, and "The Golden Room," performed by the cast adorned in gold body paint.

Iona Pear's work, which stems from the Japanese butoh dance form, is known for its stunning imagery and insightful sense of humor.

Tickets for the event are $20, $30 and $40, available at the Hawaii Theatre box office. Tickets may also be charged by calling 528-0506. The Nova Arts Foundation is presenting the work. For more information, call the Iona Pear Dance Theatre at 262-0110.
