Many hate the Oahu Interscholastic Association's "sudden-death" format that eliminates regular-season basketball champions from state tournament berths with one slip-up in the OIA Tournament. An example of
class in defeatBut Dana Dias, coach of the latest victim, then-No. 3 Moanalua, refuses to complain.
"We had our chances (in a 56-55 overtime loss to Kahuku on Friday), we just didn't capitalize on them," Dias said. "I told the girls that unfortunately only one team finishes with a win. I told them don't focus on the one loss, but on the overall record (22-2). The teams peaking now deserve to go (to the state tournament)."
