Sea Warriors splitHawaii-Hilo and Hawaii Pacific divided a baseball doubleheader at Hilo yesterday, the Vulcans winning the opener, 6-4, and the Sea Warriors taking the second game, 4-1.
The nonconference split left UH-Hilo with a 16-29 season record and HPU at 16-17.
Nalei Sooto, a freshman catcher with just six previous plate appearances, had two singles, a double and a stolen base in the Vulcans' first-game victory. Scott Suraci also was 3-for-4, with two RBIs, for the Vuls.
HPU's Matt Ramie stole home in the seventh inning of the second game, breaking a 1-1 tie, and Gabe Gerhardt doubled in a pair of insurance runs in the eighth.
Winning pitcher Keola McCallum scattered seven hits over 7 2/3 innings and Palani Nunes finished up with a hitless relief stint.
