WAHINE SOFTBALL PLAYBOOK

Tapa

vs. Tulsa Golden Hurricane

Bullet First pitch: Today and tomorrow, 5 p.m. doubleheaders at the Rainbow Wahine Softball Stadium.

Bullet Coaches: Hawaii, Bob Coolen, 17th season (401-305-1, .568); Tulsa, Lori Castellano, 3rd season (39-77, .336).

Bullet Season: Hawaii (5-7 Western Athletic Conference, 19-22 overall); Tulsa (5-7, 17-26).

Bullet Series record: Hawaii leads the series, 12-0.

Bullet Top players: Tulsa, Dawn Reed (.288, 8 doubles, 12 runs batted in); Angela Wedlake (9-9, 105 strikeouts, 2.20 earned run average), Jenny Magill (5-11, 94 Ks, 2.27 ERA) ... Hawaii, Dana Degen(.389, 7 home runs, 25 RBIs); Melissa McGie (.331, 4 HR, 19 RBIs); Joyce Lum (.309, 7 RBIs); Tyree Woodruff (.306, 11 RBIs); Desiree Duran (7-4, 61 K's 2.12 ERA); Sheri Oronoz (7-8, 2.79 ERA), and Janelle Gonzales (5-9, 3.93 ERA).

Bullet Series keys: The teams are tied for fourth place, but are just one game out of second place in the conference standings. With eight games remaining in the regular season, both have a chance to move up, perhaps even finish second to Fresno State, which has all but clinched first place ... For the Wahine, they will have to do more than split doubleheaders as they did last week in Oregon ... The Wahine have a much better team batting average and can score runs. It's a question of holding opponents to fewer runs.

Bullet Wall of Fame: After tomorrow's second game, there will be a ceremony inducting the first class of Wall of Fame honorees. Among the selections are former All-Americans Brooke Wilkins, Tia Morenz and Kelly Gentle

Bullet Aloha, seniors: Seniors Dana Degen, Joyce Lum, Melissa McGie and Alison Rapanot will also be honored after tomorrow's second game and make the traditional run around the bases. Between them, they have three All-American awards, six All-WAC awards and five All-West Region awards and several academic citations

Bullet Interesting facts: Bob Coolen has experience just one losing season in his nine previous years as Wahine head coach. The Wahine are coming off a six-game road trip where they went 5-1. The team split with No. 18 Oregon then swept two WAC doubleheaders against Portland State... Hawaii is 58-9 at home in two-plus seasons and the refurbished Rainbow Wahine Softball Stadium. The Wahine are 10-8 this season with six of the losses to Top 25 teams... The Wahine are 2-10 against ranked teams this season.

Bullet On the air: All games televised live on KFVE TV (Channel 5).
