The demand for housing for high-paid, high-tech executives has home prices soaring in some mainland areas, but Honolulu is still right up there among the most expensive, according to a new survey.

Honolulu rated third most expensive in a check of prices for a specific type of house -- 2,200 square feet with eight rooms, including four bedrooms and 2.5 bathrooms -- in the survey by Runzheimer International.

The top price, $700,000, was near San Jose, Calif., one of the high-technology hot spots. San Francisco came next at $567,400, followed by Honolulu at $372,700, a little over half the price for San Jose but still high on the national list.

The lowest price for an identical four-bedroom house was $82,000, in Port Arthur, Texas. Next on the low end was Hobbs, N.M., at $93,300 and Towanda, Pa., at $101,800.

The national average was $208,900, according to Rochester, Minn.-based Runzheimer.
