Winning ways

Gotaro Ogawa, Japanese consul general, congratulates
this year's recipients of the Crown Prince Akihito scholarship
awards in a ceremony yesterday at the Nuuanu consulate.
The winners, all students at the University of Hawaii-Manoa,
are from left, Kanako Cho and Mutsumi Komatsu of Japan
and Christopher Bondy, Matthew Carlsen and Douglas
Fuqua of the United States. The scholarships cover a
two-year period of study in Japan and Hawaii, and
commemorate the wedding of Prince Akihito
and Princess Michiko.
