Court custodian’s
murder unsolved

Question: What happened with the case of the judiciary custodian who was murdered and his mutilated body left in front of the Circuit Court building last year?

Answer: Edwin Iwata's homicide case remains open and unsolved, police said.

There are no leads and the investigation has come to a standstill, they said. Detectives are hoping new witnesses or information will emerge.

Iwata, 57, was found dead, his genitalia severed, on the sidewalk along Halekauwila Street on July 14.

The medical examiner later determined that Iwata died of a stab wound in the chest.

A man had been seen arguing with Iwata about 4:20 that morning, but no suspect was ever questioned.

Iwata was described by friends and co-workers as an unassuming, hard-working and likable person.
