Still afraid or mystified by technology? At Leeward Community College's Tech Fair Saturday, students want to eliminate some of the tech fears that have been bugging you.

The fair will feature interactive demonstrations and hands-on activities related to the school's technology programs.

Among the activities:

Bullet Create a web page.
Bullet Create and view objects in 3-D through computer-aided design.
Bullet Learn the secrets of digital photography.

KITV trio up for Emmys

KITV news anchors Gary Sprinkle and Pamela Young, and news photographer Jeff Cuales have been nominated for regional Emmy awards.

Young is nominated in the writing category for her work on "Mixed Plate" specials "Matsuuri" and "Land Where Time Began."

Sprinkle and Cuales are nominated in the informational program category for the Pacific Adventures series, "Yap: Land of Stone Money," a documentary on the Pacific island of Yap.

The Emmys will be awarded May 20 in San Francisco by the National Association of Television Art and Sciences.

Guy coming to town

Blues guitarist Buddy Guy will play the Sheraton Waikiki's Hawaii Ballroom June 8 at 8 p.m.

Tickets go on sale via mail-order in Wednesday's Honolulu Weekly and next week in Pacific Business News and MidWeek. Prices range from $30 to $45 for reserved seats at tables of 10.

Scholarships and more

"Strongest Kid in America": Jarrin K. Shigemura, age 10, of Hilo has been selected as one of the 50 semi-finalists in the Sunny Delight Strongest Kid in America Contest. He was nominated by his mother, Charmaine Shigemura, and competed among hundreds of other kids ages 9-11.

The contest recognizes kids who demonstrate mental strength, physical strength and strength of character. The winner will be awarded a $10,000 college scholarship, the national title of "Strongest Kid in America" and other prizes.
