Vulcans routed

by BulldogsHILO -- Fresno State hammered out a season-high 21 hits and pummeled the University of Hawaii-Hilo, 15-3, in a Western Athletic Conference baseball game at Wong Stadium yesterday.
Anthony Acevedo and Brandon Gemoll collected four hits apiece to power the Bulldogs. Josh Labandeira chipped in with three hits.
The Bulldogs (31-11 overall, 13-6 in WAC) waltzed out to a 5-2 lead after two innings and built an 8-2 edge by the fifth.
Fresno State scored for seven runs in the eighth to put the game away. Acevedo, Gemoll, Nick Garcia and Mike Bowlin hit consecutive doubles and Ben Fritz and Labandeira cracked triples to lead the surge. The Vulcans (14-27, 5-17) scored one run in the first, second and seventh innings.
The teams meet again at 6 tonight at Wong Stadium. The series concludes tomorrow with a 1 p.m. game in Kona.
