Does William Shakespeare really deserve the credit for
"Hamlet," "Romeo and Juliet" and all those other
pieces? That is the question.

Birthday bashing
for old Will

Questioning a man's accomplishments seems an odd way to celebrate his birthday, but that's how Terence Knapp is marking William Shakespeare's 436th. "Shakespeare's Birthday Celebration XXX," the 30th celebration hosted by Knapp, begins 6 p.m. Sunday at Kennedy Theatre, and asks whether or not the Bard really did write all the plays and sonnets attributed to him.

Knapp, a University of Hawaii at Manoa drama professor and the director of most of Kennedy Theatre's Shakespearean productions, conceived the work entitled "Was He Willie Really?" In it, Knapp performs some of his own Shakespeare favorites while questioning their authorship.

In lieu of tickets, donations will be accepted at the door. Proceeds will benefit the UHM Department of Theatre and Dance scholarship fund.

The box office will open at 5 p.m. and doors to the Earle Ernst Lab Theatre will open at 5:30 p.m. For more information, call 956-7655.
