HOW many people call their wives "Dr. Sex?" I know at least one. That's the nickname Charlie Pietsch III has for his bride, Diana Wiley, who now holds a doctorate in human sexuality and clinical sexology. None of that "Dr. Sex" stuff on the radio, however. On her weekly KHVH show she's merely "Dr. Diana" or "Dr. Wiley." Not everything has to do with sex either. For example, her show is called "50-Plus and Fabulous," and when Jim Nabors guests tomorrow the topic will focus not on sex, but on his beginnings, the "Gomer Pyle" era, his liver transplant and how pal Carol Burnett kept him in stitches will he was waiting for a donor. Dr. Sex's show is at 8 a.m. Saturdays on KHVH, 830 on the dial ... Saturdays with Dr. Sex
WITH Easter upon us, the punsters who work for newspapers will be regaling us once again with stories about things that aren't what they're cracked up to be and using coined words like "eggs-actly" and "eggs-centric." So with Bugs Bunny taking time off from the Warner Bros. Studio Store in Ala Moana Center to visit Washington Place Sunday morning while the First Family hosts their annual Open House and egg hunt, might we suggest they include on the menu "Eggs Bunny-dict?" I didn't think so ... Speaking of names, the person selected by the Disney film folks to address the press about the plane that crashed during the filming of "Pearl Harbor" had the unfortunate name, Gabriella Gutentag. That's "Good morning" to you non-speakers of German, and what's good about it? ...
ConTempo Rarities
AT last, a great play on words! ConTempo Rarities is the name given tomorrow night's silent auction of art works at the Contemporary Museum's "ConTempo" fund-raiser, already a sell out. The most expensive item on the bidding block now is a bronze horse by Deborah Butterfield that's probably worthy of being auctioned by Butterfield and Butterfield. The current highest bid on the bronze steed is $65,000. That's more than record-winning racehorse John Henry fetched when a yearling ...NEXT they'll be calling him "Andre the Giant." Andre Tatibouet is on a roll. At the American Hotel & Motel Association's annual conference in Phoenix, he received three national honors in three days. First he won the "Most Valuable Volunteer Award," followed the next day by "Best State Association for Membership" which he accepted on behalf of the Hawaii Hotel Association. And on the final day, he received the coveted "Cutting Edge Award." ...
Musical musings
WE mentioned the 42-piece orchestra now backing onetime solo folk singer-guitarist Joni Mitchell, and Eric Nagamine jumps up to inform us that one member of her orchestra is Hawaii born McKinley grad Morris Kainuma, who plays tuba in the group. He was recognized when backing Mitchell on the Rosie O'Donnell show the other day. Currently he's playing in the pit orchestra for Bernadette Peters in "Annie Get Your Gun" on Broadway ... And Hawaiian Tel p.r. man Brian Blevins is looking forward to tomorrow's concert by songwriter-guitarist Richard Thompson at the Academy of Arts. Thompson also performed on TNT's tribute to Joni Mitchell Sunday night. He was one of the recording artists (along with Bob Marley, Steve Winwood, Cat Stevens, etc.) signed with Island Records in England during the 1970s when Blevins was the label's press officer ...
