Kaimuki forfeits after
two coaches ejectedBASEBALL
Star-Bulletin staffTwo Oahu Interscholastic Association baseball games ended prematurely yesterday for different reasons, as Kaimuki and Waialua forfeited league games.
Waialua (0-7) forfeited a home game to Nanakuli (2-5) because it didn't have enough players to field a team.
The Kaimuki vs. Kaiser contest ended abruptly in the top of the fourth inning after both Kaimuki coaches were ejected.
After one of the Kaimuki players struck out, he apparently said "give me a break," to the umpire as he was walking away, according to Kaimuki coach Clyde Hayashida.
Umpire Curtis Cho ejected the batter.
Hayashida said he argued with Cho for about two minutes, and then was kicked out without warning.
"He said he threw me out because I didn't put in another player after the ejection, but we were still up at bat and we didn't have to make a change yet," Hayashida said. "I did no swearing, I was just asking him why he threw my player out."
Hayashida said after Cho threw him out, assistant coach Dwight Kanetoku "got into it" with Cho and was also ejected.
With no coaches left, Kaimuki (2-4) was forced to forfeit.
Kaiser (3-3) was leading 11-5 when the game ended.
