Preps get own
radio show

With the recent events in local sports radio, you may be in mourning for Papa Joe or, God forbid, Bob Kemp.

But you can still get a good weekly dose of talk radio that is totally devoted to Hawaii high school sports.

Hawaii Sports Talk, on KCCN 1420-AM, 7:30-8:30 p.m. each Monday, is all about preps. Hosts Barry Villamil and Randy Miyamoto honor athletes of the week (not always the same as the Star-Bulletin, but that's OK), discuss the week's happenings and chat with guests and callers.

More preps on the air: Oceanic Cable announced it will telecast the OIA baseball and girls' basketball championships, both on May 6. Check your listings.

BASKETBALL: OIA East girls' teams jockey for position

Five of the Oahu Interscholastic Association East playoff spots are taken going into tonight's final regular-season games. Kaimuki (3-5) can clinch the final spot with a win over Farrington (2-6) at the Governors' gym.

Kahuku (6-2) can clinch a first-round bye, but only by upsetting Kalaheo (8-0), which has the other bye. If Kahuku loses, McKinley (6-2) clinches the other bye, even if it loses to Kailua (1-7).

BASEBALL: Mililani meets Aiea in West showdown

Mililani (6-1) travels to Aiea (6-0) in a key Oahu Interscholastic Association West baseball game today. There are four other games at OIA West school fields.

In the East, Kailua (4-1) tries to rebound against visiting Kalani (3-2) after losing to Roosevelt (2-3). That's the most intriguing of the division's five games today.
