The second-ranked Kalaheo girls' basketball team ran out to a 12-0 lead in the first quarter and held off Roosevelt in the second half to stay unbeaten in the OIA East.

Brandy Richardson scored 15 points to lead the Mustangs (8-0), who clinched a share of their fourth consecutive division title. Ashlie Dutro led the Rough Riders (5-3) with 10 points.

Roosevelt went on a 7-2 run to close out the first half, and closed to within two points in the third quarter.

"They ran a couple good traps and we missed the first seven shots of the third quarter," Kalaheo coach Chico Furtado said.

But Sharon Wahinekapu gave the Mustangs some breathing room when she hit three straight baskets to bump Kalaheo's lead up to eight.

Wahinekapu finished with 12 points.
