Hedy Liu, a senior forward from Waianae, received the Ah Chew Goo Achievement Award at the University of Hawaii women's basketball team's annual banquet at the Hawaiian Regent Hotel last night.

Liu was among five players honored for their contributions to the University of Hawaii women's basketball program.

The Ah Chew Good award is considered the most prestigious individual honor and is given to the player who attains basketball excellence through dedication, determination and perseverance. Liu had six knee operations during her five years with the Wahine.

Raylene Howard, a senior forward from Goulburn, Australia, was named the Most Outstanding Offensive Player. She led the Western Athletic Conference in scoring (17.1 points per game) and was second in field goal percentage (.530).

Kylie Galloway, a junior forward from Elwood, Australia, was named the Most Inspirational Player. She returned from a severe injury to her right ankle and the birth of her son to earn first-time WAC honors this season.

Kyla Evers, a senior guard from Port Orchard, Wash., was selected the Most Outstanding Defensive Player. She led the team in steals (1.8 per game) after being shifted from shooting guard to point guard.

Maj Forsberg, a senior point guard from Horsholm, Denmark, is the Scholar-Athlete. She had a 4.0 grade point average in the fall semester and maintains an overall GPA of 3.71.

The Wahine broke the team record for 3-point baskets made in a season with 128, two more than the mark set in 1997-98.

They twice tied the record for most 3-pointers in a game (10), doing it against Texas-El Paso and Fresno State.

Howard broke the record for career field goal percentage, .551, by hitting 623 of her 1,131 shots.

Kate McMeeken-Ruscoe tied the single-game record for 3-pointers made when she sank six against Texas Christian.

Hawaii head coach Vince Goo called Howard one of the most consistent players he has ever coached.

She finished her career third on the all-time scoring list with 1,786 points.

The 5-foot-11 wing player is second in career scoring average (15.8) and free throws made (457), third in field goals made (623), fourth in rebounds (682) and fifth in 3-point field goals made (83).
