Isle tennis teams
come up big

Unbeaten Brigham Young University-Hawaii, the nation's No. 1-ranked NCAA Division II women's tennis team, faced No. 2 Lynn University of Florida today in the second-round of the Blue-Gray Small College Tournament at Montgomery, Ala.

The Seasiders (22-0) drubbed 15th-ranked Georgia College & State University, 5-0, yesterday for their 60th consecutive victory in a streak that began in 1998.

Petra Gaspar remained unbeaten in singles play this season as the Seasiders matched the BYUH women's volleyball team for the longest win streak in school history.

In the men's event, Hawaii Pacific toppled West Florida, the No. 2 NCAA II team, 5-3.

Singles victories by Eric Sandblom, Wojtek Bratek and Stefan Pampulov helped the Sea Warriors boost their season record to 17-3.

Seasiders, Swords split

BYU-Hawaii and Chaminade split a softball doubleheader yesterday at Laie.

The Silverswords scored four eighth-inning runs to win the opener, 6-3, and the Seasiders bounced back with four first-inning runs in the second game on the way to a 5-2 victory.

UH golfers bring up rear

The University of Hawaii men's golf team finished last in the 20-team Western Intercollegiate Tournament at Santa Cruz, Calif., yesterday.

Fresno State won the 54-hole event by seven strokes over runner-up Pepperdine.

Jaime Matsumura was the Rainbows' low scorer at 225, 15 over par, after a closing 71. Pepperdine's Jason Allred shot 70 - 199 to take individual honors.

Long-drive competition

There will be a long-drive qualifying contest tomorrow from 1 to 5 p.m. at the Turtle Bay Country Club, with golfers in two divisions trying to advance to the national competition.
