’Bows in
volleyball playoffs

The University of Hawaii men's volleyball team, fresh off four road victories last week and riding a six-match winning streak, has clinched a Mountain Pacific Sports Federation playoff spot.

The Rainbows (16-8, 11-6 MPSF) will travel to play either Pepperdine, UCLA, USC or Long Beach State in the first round on April 22.

But first, Hawaii closes out the regular season with two home matches against Lewis University (Friday and Saturday) and the University of Pacific (April 14-15).

Pro wrestling in Palama

Pro wrestling is coming to Palama Settlement Gym on April 24 at 6:30 p.m.

Wrestlers include Bone Crusher, Jazz, Bulldog, Kaimana, Gentleman Jeff, Samoan Warrior, Big Joe and Ice Cold Dave Pain.

The admission is $10 for adults, $5 for ages 7-17, and free for children 6 and under.

According to organizers, 20 percent of the proceeds from the event will go to the children of Palama Settlement.

WAC honors for UH pair

Two University of Hawaii softball players received Western Athletic Conference honors yesterday.

Dana Degen was chosen as the player of the week and Desiree Duran was named pitcher of the week.

Degen batted .533 in six games and walked seven times. She leads the WAC in batting with a .406 average.

Duran was 2-1 last week with two two-hitters in four appearances on the mound. In 20 innings, she allowed one earned run for a 0.34 ERA and she struck out 17.
